Our second day on the Big Island we took a beautiful scenic route off the highway to a botanical garden. We also hit the Mauna Loa Macadamia nut factory (not that exciting, but they have awesome chocolate!) and the visitor center on Mauna Kea. The peak of Mauna Kea has about 12 high-power telescopes on top of it and is considered one of the best astronomy points in the world. We didn't make it to the top because our car rental agreement said we wouldn't go off-road :( but we still saw some awesome stars. People up there were freezing, but Dustin and I thought it felt like a normal summer night at home :) It was nice to be out of the humidity for a little while.
