Camping in Island Park and a trip to Yellowstone National Park

Friday night Dustin, his parents Randy & Teresa, and my sister Britni picked me up after work in Idaho Falls and we headed up to Ashton. We had a quick dinner with my mom, niece Juniper and nephews Charles and Anthony at the ever-famous Trails Inn before continuing on north. Our plan had been to get up to the Gallatin area of Montana, but we had gotten a late start and it was already getting dark, so we stopped in Island Park to set up camp.

Saturday we took a walk down to Sheep Falls, where Sophie and Kieko had a blast running up and down the trail. They were even more thrilled when Dustin chased them a little ways. I even did a little modeling in my zip-off pants. We floated Box Canyon and saw a bald eagle and blue heron before heading back for a late lunch and a nap in the shade. That night Mom and Dad came up to have some salmon and ribs with us. We really know how to camp!

Sunday we met my parents in Last Chance and headed up to Yellowstone Park. Sophie spent the whole trip either with her head out the window or sleeping in someone's lap. We went over to Canyon to see the falls and then headed up to Tower-Roosevelt and around Mammoth and back down. We didn't get over to see Old Faithful or the paint pots, but there are only so many hours in a day. We saw a bunch of elk (does only), and two bald eagles, but only three buffalo. Happily, I got to see my first bear in the park, and it just so happened to be a grizzly!

Sophie was pretty tuckered out from all the running she and Kieko had done all weekend.

I love the green in the falls!

Sophie with her head out the window. The elk made her nervous, so she'd growl at them all fierce-like.

My first Grizzly Bear!
