Continuing with Sometimes Sweet's Journal Day, here is journal prompt #2.
"We all have songs that really mean something to us. Often just hearing it can take us right back to that place and we are able to re-experience the memory associated with the song. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but either way music has the ability to really draw things out of us and evoke deep emotion. Choose a song that has a particular meaning to you. Tell the story of the memory associated with the song, sharing as much detail as you can. Take us there; let us experience it with you."
While planning our wedding, Dustin and I had no problems adding music to our reception playlist. We quickly found songs for our mother-son and father-daughter dances (What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong and Van Morrison's Brown-Eyed Girl, respectively), but we were having a hard time deciding on a song for our first dance. We didn't really have our song. We listened to a lot of music together, but a lot of the songs weren't really wedding reception material.
While trying to fill in the last of our playlist, I discovered Ray LaMontagne's You Are The Best Thing. It seemed perfect for us. Even after our wedding, it became the ringtone on my phone for when Dustin called me. The best part was that our dog Sophie learned to associate hearing that song with me talking to her daddy. When it would randomly come across my Pandora station, she would sit up and stare at me, waiting for me to answer my phone. She still perks up when she hears it.
